future farm
2020
Academic design Project

The existing bio farm is located on the island of Rügen ,between Binz and Sassnitz in north of Germany.
There Angus cattle, at present
approx. 50 animals and
Dorper, at present 100 animals are kept in herd book breeding and 50 hectares of arable land and 70 hectares of grassland are managed.
Goals:
More animal welfare
Sustainability
Less negative environmental impact
More ecological form of animal husbandry
Optimize farm size and operational process
Natural lighting and ventilation
Regional natural material
Use of renewable energy
Inviting entrance
Sustainable construction methods
Residential:
East west orientation
Air circulation
Natural ventilation
Living room face to the south
Orientation:
East-west for stalls with concrete floor
Takes advantage of prevailing winds
Reduces direct sunlight
Minimizes heat stress
Decreases respiration rate
North-south for stalls with out concrete floor
Natural ventilation:
The wall should not be completely solid to allow
air movement through the house
Good air movement (ventilation) is essential to
remove moisture, excess heat in hot weather
and/or odor and gasses from animal waste so
that animals stay cool, dry and clean
While good ventilation is essential for animal
health, drafty conditions must be avoided
Air circulation should be above the animals’
heads and ventilation openings should be
placed high enough so that air does not blow
directly past the animals
walls of about 1 meter height will provide
sufficient ventilation. A hedge can also fulfill
this function
Natural resources:
Solar panel generation
Rainwater harvesting
